19 of his novels and short stories were adapted into movies. The most popular were during the 1940's and 1950's when the author was still alive. He committed suicide in 1961.
Movie Star - Ava Gardner starred in most of his works, "The Killers" (1946), "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" (1952) and "The Sun Also Rises" (1957). She and Hemingway were good friends. He claimed that Ava skinny-dipped in his swimming pool. He never drained it after that.
Another Movie Star - Lauren Bacall was a good friend of his too. She starred in his, "To Have and Have Not" (1944.).
