Vulture interview with 'Daniel Dae Kim' on equal pay 'Hawaii Five-0'

DANIEL DAE KIM from LOST and HAWAII FIVE-0. The fire-storm caused by the media began right before filming of the 8th TV season of "Hawaii Five-0" (CBS). Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park would not return to the series because of un-equal pay. Both had been with the show for 7 seasons. That was the focus of the Internet gossip and the TV fans of "Five-0" took sides. Daniel and Grace were lead characters on the series.

CBS producers claimed that they had offered Daniel and Grace significant pay increases. Both had refused because they would receive less-pay than, the other lead roles, played by Alex O'Loughlin and Scott Caan.

The TV show scrambled to find replacements for officers, Chin Ho Kelly and Kono Kalakaua. The series survived and lasted 2 more TV seasons.

Grace Park had never really talked about her departure, but only to be closer to her family. Daniel just said he wasn't getting equal pay as a lead character during contract negotiations.... He talks to "Vulture" about that controversy. He's grateful for the opportunities "Five-0" had given him as a budding producer. He also says that he lost significant pay from "Lost" when starting on "Five-0."
