Movie Legend - Kirk Douglas passed away last year (2020) at age 103 years. His wife Anne (Buydens) Douglas has died (2021) at 102 years. They were married for 65 years and now will be together forever - up there....
I'm a huge fan of Kirk Douglas and I even show a "Gif" of him on this blog. It is from his movie "Ace in the Hole" (1951).
I read his autobiography called, "The Ragman's Son" (1988) and was introduced to his wife Anne in that book. She had a protective intuition when Kirk wanted to jump on a plane with Mike Todd. He was married to Liz Taylor who wasn't with him. Anne didn't want Kirk to go on that plane and they argued about it. He never went.... Mike Todd and others were killed in a plane crash (1958).
Kirk would receive his third and final Oscar nomination as best actor with "Lust for Life" (1956). He portrayed artist Vincent Van Gogh. He always thought the Academy Awards was a popularity contest and he was known as a difficult movie star on film-sets.... He lost the Oscar to Yul Brynner for "The King and I." Kirk was filming in Europe and the first telegram he had received after losing - was from Anne.
Kirk always said that if he received an Oscar. He would give it to Anne. That's exactly what he did in 1996 when Kirk received a life-time achievement award. RIP Anne....
