Tony Bennett's management revealed that he was diagnosed with "Dementia" (2016). Tony continued to tour until his doctors told him recently to stop performing (2021). He has officially retired....
He had a 70 year career and his best performances were live on-stage. He had sung with every singer and band from the 1940's until 2021. He also won 20 Grammy awards including a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Tony's 1962 album, "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" was released on Columbia Records. The title song was on the "B" side of "Once Upon a Time." Radio disc jockey's flipped over the record and "San Francisco" became a pop hit (#19). It went on to win Grammy award's for "Record of the Year" and "Best Male solo vocal performance."
"San Francisco" was selected for preservation in the "National Recording Registry" by the "Library of Congress" (2018). It also became One-of-Two "song" anthems for the city of San Francisco (1984).
