Classic Movie Flashback 'Streetwise' 1984 Documentary

STREETWISE distributed by ANGELIKA Films (1984). Country singer Willie Nelson funded the documentary film. It is based on the "Life" magazine article called, "Streets of the Lost" (July 1983). Written by Cheryl McCall and photographed by Mary Ellen Mark. They interviewed several teens who live on the streets of Seattle, Washington. 

Martin Bell served as director and cinematographer. He followed nine homeless teens at Seattle from 1983 to 1984. The documentary received critical acclaim and was nominated for an Oscar as "best documentary feature" (1985). It became a huge rental on VHS Home Video after its release in 1986. The Criterion Collection released the Doc on DVD and BluRay in 2021.

Seattle, Washington was labeled at the time, "America's Most Livable City." As of 2025 - Seven of the nine teens spotlighted in "Streetwise" have passed on.
