The Oscar controversy is now escalating into anger & rage. Rev. Al Sharpton & rap artist Snoop Dogg have now jumped on the band wagon to boycott the Oscars in February 2016. Even George Clooney weighed in on the "Lack of Diversity" because not one black actor nor actress was nominated in the 20 acting categories.
Whoopi Goldberg who is a member of the Academy won an Oscar back in 1990 for "Ghost." She tells "The View" audience that it's not about voting for a white performer instead of a black performer. It's about the low profile movies with blacks that are never seen in good films. There is no distribution to support these fine performances. Whoopi says that why complain once a year? You should complain all year round.
Robert Redford wasn't nominated as best actor for ALL IS LOST (2013) because the producers of his film didn't campaign for him. They either had no money in which to campaign or felt they didn't need to push for an Oscar nomination. Critics felt he deserved a nomination. It all comes down to money to push these performances & that definitely includes Native American films.
