PRIMATE from PARAMOUNT pictures (2026). The horror/slasher film rose above expectations after its' Jan. 9 release. Critics and preview audiences praised the movie. The opening weekend nabbed $11 million at the North American box office.
The production budget ranges from $21-24 million. As of Feb 16, 2026. It has grossed $40 million at the world-wide box office. Paramount has profited $16-19 million. This is a nice chunk of change from a movie dumped in January. Which is usually a wasteland of movies that make no money.
The filmmakers pulled back on the CGI effects. A monkey suit was put on a little-person-actor. Plus, the heavy make up. The chimpanzee became so "real" that it was scary during his rampage. The rapid monkey came alive and frightened theater audiences. (Including me).
