An All New DATELINE tonight Friday Aug. 21, 2015

Josh Mankiewicz is back tonight for an all new DATELINE episode. It's called, "Mystery at Heath Bar Farm." It looks like another robbery gone wrong after a wife & mother is shot to death at point blank range.

2015 National SAG-AFTRA elections upset

Ken Howard (16,233 votes) handily beat Patricia Richardson (13,976 votes) for National President. Howard is "Unite for Strength" & Richardson is "Membership First." Two divided group factions within SAG-AFTRA. There were only 30,263 votes total out of 139,313 eligible union members. That's only 20% who actually voted. 

Jenny O'Hara (14,143 votes) was beaten by stunt-woman Jane Austin (15,772 votes) for secretary-treasurer. O'Hara is "Unite for Strength" & Austin is "Membership First." It is apparently an upset win for Austin who is Richardson's running mate. 

Do you see what you can do when you vote? "Change." But, there is still internal feuding & only 20% voted. Only 20% means most union members don't care & don't want to vote.

300 contemporary Native American artists kick off IFAM 2015 at Santa Fe

The "Indigenous Fine Art Market" 2015 kicked off today Thursday Aug. 20, 2015. It is the 2nd annual IFAM with 300 Native contemporary artists selling their art work. Last night, IFAM had their kickoff party & so did the competing SWAIA Indian Market party. There were hardly any natives at the IAIA gala. It is a big weekend for both markets, but more importantly, native artists.

Santa Fe. IAIA Gala raises $71,200 for Native scholarships

The dinner & live auction for IAIA brought in $71,200 for native scholarships. That doesn't include the silent auction & private pledges.

Roscoe attends IAIA gala at Santa Fe 2015

Hello, everyone -- I attended the IAIA gala for the third year. I was a guest of long time contributor to IAIA, Bob Harcourt. I covered it for Examiner News & my article will come out today. IAIA gala grabbed $71,000 in scholarships for Native students.

The Indigenous Fine Art Market (IFAM) starts today & the Santa Fe Indian Market (SWAIA) starts Saturday. Both organizations have special events all week including the kick off parties for each, which was last night. The IAIA gala had many missing regular faces.

JANE GOT A GUN western pushed 3 times with theatrical release

The troubled western JANE GOT A GUN was let go from one of its' distributors named, "Relativity." The company partnered with "The Weinstein Company" to release the western in US theaters. Relativity has filed for bankruptcy & "Jane" is still looking for a release date which might be in 2016. It has been pushed into 3 release dates already.

SAG-AFTRA national elections projecting Ken Howard as winner

DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD is projecting Ken Howard as the winner as President of SAG-AFTRA for another term. Voting ends on Aug. 20, 2015 & the "Unite for Strength" candidates that were endorsed by Howard have been re-elected across the U.S. "Members First" just haven't been grabbing votes because it seems no one wants change. 

SAG-AFTRA members in each state just aren't voting either. So, what does that mean? Board members are re-elected because the majority of votes are from their constituents. Opposing candidates are then left out in the cold. 

Check out the DEADLINE HOLLYWOOD breakdown of what's going on behind the scenes & with what has changed with SAG-AFTRA. There is still so much internal fighting that it is no wonder the union is moving forward. I say, "The only way to make change is to vote. If you don't, then you have nothing to complain about."

SICARIO was filmed right here in Albuquerque in 2014. It premiered with critical acclaim at the May 2015 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL.

COLD JUSTICE the TNT network & its' producers face defamation lawsuit from a murder suspect

A cold case was re-opened by the COLD JUSTICE investigative team & built a circumstantial case against Steven Noffsinger. He sat in jail in 2014 & was acquitted of his former wife's murder in May of 2015. He is now suing TNT, its' producers & TV hosts for defamation of character. He is asking for $75,000.

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON wins box office with estimated $57 million

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON may be the biggest Biopic opening ever with a projected $57 million. Reports say that Universal marketed heavily inside social media to get people into US theaters. It worked..., MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4 with Tom Cruise holds onto number the #2 spot which beat out THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E., -- which Cruise backed out of. Go figure.

COLD JUSTICE a wife goes missing back in 1985 that turns into murder in "The Escape?"

THE ESCAPE? Is about a mother's search of her daughter's disappearance since 1985. The daughter's husband beat her on a weekly basis to control her. COLD JUSTICE heads to Oregon County, MO., to work on the missing person's case. It turns into the murder of the daughter. 

(Kelly Seigler is a former prosecuting attorney & this is the first time she gets frustrated with a witness. That witness is scared of the male abuser who might have killed his wife. She shuts down & claims not to remember anything.  After the interview, Kelly angrily says, "She makes me so mad, I'd like to slap the s*** out of her." I laughed out loud...,).

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON hauls in $24.3 milion at box office on Friday

Well, since friends of mine are giving me free tickets to see movies. I went & saw STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON & it was very, very good. What a throw back to the late 1980's when Rap music didn't even have a Grammy award category.

Native Americans can relate in a certain way because of the inner violence, frustration & anger toward cops. In our case, it was tribal cops & state cops. At that time, crack cocaine was also filtering on the reservations big time. This film captured the late 1980's which was a time of change in the music industry. 

I wish they made a film about Natives in this way because our voice is deeper rooted in traditions, culture & trapped on reservations. It was a prison for natives & in some ways it still is. Something to think about.

Roscoe Pond climbs to top 5 of Examiner writers for New Mexico 2015

EXAMINER has revamped its' editor jobs & overall rules for writers. Roscoe Pond has a new title called, ALBUQUERQUE TV CRIME & will hold onto his first title SANTA FE NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE. He'll write for both.

Roscoe has climbed back to the #1 spot for Examiners in New Mexico with SANTA FE NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE. He has climbed up to number #5 with his new title ALBUQUERQUE TV CRIME. - Wahoo!

DATELINE has a repeat episode Friday Aug. 14, 2015

Well, we get three nights of DATELINE each week. So, I guess we need to wait for new crime stories for TV producers to find. Tonight's episode is called, THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL & it is a repeat from earlier this year.

LONGMIRE sneak peak of upcoming Season 4 for 2015

Well, it looks like Walt is going after Ben Nighthorse who was hired - to hire - someone to kill Walt's wife Martha. So, Walt is going to take Ben down right here with a shotgun. Nighthorse is a corrupt tribal politician who uses his power to run his own operations at the expense of the tribe & its' casino. He was hired by Branch's father to hire someone to kill Walt's wife.

At the end of season 3 - Walt finally found all the men who were part of the conspiracy to kill his wife. He did go to Denver to find her killer & got into a fight. He had scars on his back that was never really explained. His best friend Henry had followed Walt & tried to help by hiding evidence that connected them to Denver after Martha's killer was killed.

In all 3 TV seasons, Walt has been real close to the spiritual presence of the Cheyenne Indian Tribe. Maybe he's too close because of the unexplained visions & dreams. An owl landed on his porch at the end of season 3 after he spread his wife's ashes in the mountains near his cabin. He had just found out who conspired to kill his wife. What was the owl telling Walt as he walked up to it on the porch? That owl had no fear & let Walt approach him to look each other in the eyes. 

The tribal spirituality is much stronger in the "books" which this TV show is based. 

LONGMIRE season 4 teaser trailer 2015

This trailer reveals a lot of season 3. But, it also shows us what is to come. The season 3 cliff-hanger had either Branch or his dad getting shot. Branch believes that he found the man who hired someone to kill Walt Longmire's wife.  His own dad.

Walt has also figured out who killed his wife & it was really a double set-up by two different men. Meanwhile, two other men have been killed as Walt got closer to the truth. Henry Standing Bear tried to help Walt by hiding evidence because both of them went out-of-state to seek Walt's - wife's - killer. Henry went to jail for the murder of Walt's wife.

Through it all is the Cheyenne tribal myths & bad medicine that crippled Branch on a spiritual level. In between all of this was the murder mysteries in Absaroka county that is right next to the Indian reservation. Walt spent his time in each episode solving those crimes. 

Season 4 has moved to NETFLIX & begins streaming Sept. 10, 2015.

DATELINE a international fugitive mom abducts daughter in FINDING SAVANNA

A mother who only gets partial custody of her daughter goes fugitive by kidnapping the baby. She commits fraud & identity theft & becomes an international fugitive for 20 years. The father who won primary custody searches for his daughter for 21 years.

THE HATEFUL 8 teaser trailer released

First -- THE HATEFUL 8 screenplay was leaked online. Quentin Tarantino said he wasn't going to make the film & I believe he tried to sue whoever leaked the rough draft.

Second - Tarantino then had an actor table read of the screenplay in Los Angeles. It was a great success. 

Third -- Filming began on the new western starring Kurt Russell & Samuel L. Jackson. The trailer looks real good. 

SAG-AFTRA organization reports pay raises into 6 figures 2015

There is a big difference between SAG-AFTRA staff & their elected officials. Staff & directors cannot leave their jobs to seek work as performers. Unless the rules have changed since I attended a SAG meeting on jobs within the organization. On the other hand, elected SAG-AFTRA members who represent performers can actively seek employment in the entertainment industry. Example: Amy Aquino is on the board & is working on the TV show BOSCHE for Amazon.com. 

Those that wanted to work within the organization were specifically told that they could not leave their jobs for performances. Many questioned it, but that's the way it is. David White is the executive director of SAG-AFTRA & just got a raise increase reaching $600,000 a year. He is not an elected official...,

Investigators head to Fort Myers, Florida to re-open a 1993 murder. A local black woman's dead body was found behind a recreation center with a gunshot wound to the back of her head.
