THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO from PATHE' (2024). This French version was screened Out-of-Competition at the recent Cannes Film Festival. The world premiere received a 12-Minute standing ovation.
It's based on the famous novel written back in 1844. I read it as a kid. It has been adapted for film dozens of times and in several languages. That includes the many TV adaptations.
Since I love Classic movies from the Studio system. My favorite is the 1934 version with Robert Donat. I've seen it way too many times. Plus, I totally enjoy the "Lux Radio Theater" version with Robert Montgomery.
Synopsis, "Betrayed by his friends and convicted by a corrupt magistrate, the sailor Edmond Dantès is condemned to life imprisonment; upon his escape, he obtains a sizeable fortune and returns to France disguised as the 'Count of Monte Cristo', an identity through which he plans to exact vengeance on those who ruined him."
Pathe' - Will release this newest version from France on June 28, 2024. The trailer looks fantastic!
