ENDEAVOUR on PBS Masterpiece. (S1E1). The first episode was called, “Girl.” The final TV ratings garnered 7.43 million TV viewers overall. This is the prequel to the popular “Inspector Morse” TV series.

Girl.” The commanding officer doesn’t think that Constable Morse is experienced enough to be handling a full on murder investigation. His superior, Inspector “Thursday” tries to keep Morse on a tight lease. A young woman supposedly dies from an apparent heart attack. Morse is later told that she died from a drug overdose from amphetamines. It was an illegal drug one year before in 1964.

A doctor is shot dead inside a secluded bathroom. His sister-in-law has fits of seizures and he has been helping her with medication. That doctor was being blackmailed by an unknown person. He hid amphetamines in that bathroom. A bicycle was left behind just outside and it belonged to a local male priest. Constable Morse visits him and is given a puzzle to unravel.

(Note: I never guessed who the killer was and I love that. I tried to follow the clues.).
